Welcome
to Run Mom! This is a new labor of love for me. There seems to be
a lot of information out there about fitness, running, triathlons, etc.
and a lot of information for Moms in general, but not a lot to help us
combine the two. Being a Mom is the most important thing I do in my life
and my exercise routine is what keeps me sane and is vital to my ability
to be a good Mom. So I thought it would be great to develop a site to
bring women together to find help maintaining a healthy balance in our
busy lives. Juggling family, work and fitness is a BIG challenge. We run
all over town taking care of our families; we run to get to the kids to
lessons, practice, etc.; we run to get to work, run to the gym, or
sometimes just RUN for ourselves to have some thinking time. The purpose
of this site is to provide support and some fun.
Why “Run Mom”?
First, well, let’s face it, I am a MOM, not a Dad, and there were no
catchy names that encompassed Parents in general. Dads, you are all
welcome here too, just figured that when it comes to stuff for kids,
people are used to looking to Moms for help and support. Besides, Mom
dot com just sounds better.
Second, I have been referred to as a “Mom” about how I treat friends and
even colleagues, so thought since I worry about them like Moms do and
seem to have that as my overall philosophy, then maybe that was a good
title for me.

Third, while I enjoy all sorts of fitness activities, I used Run because
as a mom (or parent in general), we seldom get the
luxury of taking our
time to do anything. We are always “running” somewhere so it just seemed
to fit.
Finally, I don’t pretend to be an expert in any fitness field or at
being a Mom. I am a solid “Middle of the pack” runner and triathlete.
I am
an IronMan and an IronMom! I
definitely know I need some help with a healthier diet! However, I am a
fanatic about learning all I can to keep me doing this and having fun.
And I know I TRY to be the best Mom that I can be and am amazed daily by
the LOVE I have for my children. So combining those two … I love it when
I get creative and come up with something that is fun and challenging
for me and my family. By the way, did I mention my wonderful family?
I have been blessed with a supportive husband and two
beautiful children who
keep me on my toes and make me laugh daily. I hope you enjoy
this site and I also hope we can all learn from each other. Happy Running!
We'd Love to hear
from YOU too so go join the forums and tell us all about yourself. Any
comments or feedback to help improve the site are also welcome; just
send them to RunMom@comcast.net.

Summer is in full swing!!
Well Summer is
really baking here in Houston, so we recently went on a family vacation
to San Francisco and Lake Tahoe for our 10 year wedding anniversary and
to escape the heat. In San Francisco we did the "bike the bridge
thing" riding across the golden gate bridge and into Sausalito and
Tiburon. My four year old had to ride in a bike trailer there
because she was too little for their tag-a-long bike and we thought she
would get too tired on the long ride. SO talk about a workout!!!!
Lugging that trailer behind me up those hills and in that wind! It
felt like I had a 50 lb parachute behind me. BUT going downhill was fun
and we had a blast and definitely earned our Ghiradelli Chocolate that
night!!
HAPPY RUNNING!!
